Jan Milburn, AVCAT volunteer for 21 years, receives volunteers award

Dr Jan Milburn, our Chairman of Education and Chair of the National Selection Committee was recently honoured with the presentation of a National Volunteer Award for services to the community at Alexandria Town Hall by the Hon Tanya Plibersek MP, Minister for Human Services.

Jan has been providing her wealth of knowledge and experience to the Trust in a voluntary capacity for 21 years. She is an acknowledged expert in her chosen field of education.

There were over eighty people present to witness these prestigious annual awards and the Minister spoke eloquently and passionately about each recipient proffered on the night.

The principal activity of the Australian Veterans’ Childrens Assistance Trust (AVCAT) is the selection and administration of the recipients of the Long Tan Bursary Scheme on behalf of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Over the last ten years, 423 deserving children of Vietnam Veterans have received a Bursary with a success rate of 89%.
