Department of Veterans' Affairs

The Australian Government through the Department of Veterans' Affairs established the Long Tan Bursary to help eligible children of Vietnam veterans meet the cost of post-secondary education. The Long Tan Bursary bursaries are worth $4,000 per year, for up to three years of full-time study. The bursaries are awarded each year to successful applicants from each State and Territory. A quota system is used to ensure each State and Territory gets access to this bursary.

Founded 100 years ago on the values of recognition, service, loyalty, quality and mateship, RSL Queensland is committed to providing welfare and support to the Defence community and promoting the interests of veterans and Australian Defence Force members to Government and the wider community.

RSL Queensland’s primary objective is to provide for the sick, helpless, wounded, aged, vulnerable, destitute and needy among those who are serving or who have served in the ADF and their dependants. To this end, RSL Queensland is proud to partner with AVCAT to provide the ‘RSL Queensland Scholarship’ scheme, which sees 35 scholarships to children of veterans, to aid in their further and continuing education.

 

The Returned and Services League of Australia stands to serve the interests of its members, veterans, the ex-service community and members of the Australian Defence Force.

The National RSL Scholarships were introduced in 2006 by the RSL National Trustees. Two scholarships are awarded yearly to children of veterans in necessitous and deserving circumstances while they undertake tertiary education in Australia.

RSL National Scholarships continue for up to three years for the children and grandchildren of veterans and members of the Australian Defence Force. Each scholarship is for $4000 per year.

Returned and Services League of Australia Sub-Branches

The Newtown RSL Sub-Branch Scholarship, donated by Newtown RSL Sub-Branch, is available for children and grandchildren of veterans and offers $4000 per year, for up to three years of full-time study.

The Port Macquarie RSL Sub-Branch Scholarship, donated by Port Macquarie RSL-Sub-Branch, is available for children and grandchildren of veterans from the Port-Macquarie local area. This scholarship is worth $4000 per year, for up to three years of full-time study.

The Castle Hill RSL Sub-Branch have donated towards a scholarship.

Veterans Centre Sydney Northern Beaches

The Veteran Centre Sydney Northern Beaches was established in 2012 and is located at Dee Why RSL Club, in the heart of the Northern Beaches. The Centre is accessible to all Veterans and their families in the region and offers holistic care and assistance.

The Centre sponsors the Dee Why RSL Commemorative Scholarship. This scholarship is available for  those children and grandchildren of veterans who are living in the Manly, Warringah and Pittwater Local Government Areas. The scholarship is worth $4,000 per year, for up to three years of full-time study.

The Chatswood RSL Club Scholarship is donated by RSL Club and Sub-Branch Chatswood and is for children and grandchildren of a veteran of the ADF. The scholarship is for $4,000 per year for up to three years and is for a NSW resident. Up to four students are supported at any one time by these scholarships

Legacy Australia

Legacy is a voluntary organisation supported by veterans, servicemen and women, and volunteers drawn from all walks of life. Legacy is dedicated to caring for the families of deceased and incapacitated veterans.

Legacy Australia scholarships continue for up to three years for the children and grandchildren of members of the Australian Defence Force. Priority is given to children who are orphaned. Each scholarship is for up to three years of $4,000 per year.

John Gough Memorial Scholarship continues for up to three years of $4,000 per year. The applicant must be a “Junior Legatee” (an orphan of a veteran, who has been enrolled with Legacy).

Brisbane Water, NSW Legacy Club Scholarship

In 2001 Brisbane Water Legacy Club established a scholarship fund to provide up to three Brisbane Water (NSW) Legacy Club Scholarships annually. The object is to assist students resident within the City of Gosford and the Shire of Wyong (for two years immediately before applying) who wish to attend University, TAFE institute or an accredited private college and who are descendants of ex-Defence personnel. The Scholarship is continuing for up to three years and offers a tiered payment starting at $4000 per year.

The RAR Foundation was established in 1992 to provide benefits and welfare grants to serving members of the RAR and to their immediate families to alleviate hardship.

The RAR Foundation Scholarship pays $3,000 per year continuing for three years to the child of a soldier of the RAR.

The VVPPAA represent former, as well as current, members of the defence force and their families, of all conflicts from World War II to Afghanistan, including Peacekeeping and Peacemaking Missions. The Association is made up of volunteers who choose to help veterans in need.

The VVPPAA Scholarship is for children and grandchildren of Vietnam veterans. The scholarship is for up to three years and is $4000 per year.

The War Widows' Guild of Australia NSW Ltd, originally established in 1946, is a not for profit membership-based organisation whose mission is to promote and protect the interests of war widows in New South Wales.

War Widows Guild of Aust NSW Ltd Scholarship is continuing for up to three years for children of a war widow resident in NSW, $4000 per year.

Individual Donors

AVCAT receive donations each year from individuals and organisations including the Royal Australian Air Force Women's Association Educational Patriotic Fund. From these funds we are able to provide a number of scholarships.

TLC Scholarship is continuing for studies at a NSW University. Each scholarship is for $4,000 per year continuing (annual reviews after three years), for children and grandchildren studying at a NSW university.

AVCAT Scholarship is continuing for up to three years for $4,000 per year for children and grandchildren of veterans of the
Australian Defence Force (ADF).

The War Widows Guild Of Australia was formed on the 22nd of November 1945. Today the Guild supports and advocates for all War Widows, from all conflicts.

The VVAA was formed out of the action group to expose the use of chemicals used in the Vietnam War and the problems assosiated with Vietnam Veterans and their families. The VVAA WA today has at its core the interests of Vietnam Veterans and their families.

The VVAA South Australia sponsors the "Daryl Knapp" Scholarship continuing for up to three years for the children and grandchildren of Vietnam Veterans and must be permanently resident in South Australia. It is for $4,000 and continues for up to three years.

The TPI is dedicated to building better lives for Australia's disabled veterans and their families.

TPI NSW Scholarship is continuing for up to three years for children and grandchildren of TPIs in NSW who are current members of that organisation. Each scholarship is for $4,000 and continues with reviews annually after three years.

The TPI is dedicated to building better lives for Australia's disabled veterans and their families.

TPI SA Scholarship is for children and grandchildren of a Veteran who is a current member of that organisation or a child or grandchild of a Veteran residing in South Australia.  The scholarship is for $4000 per year for up to three years.

TPI Queensland are a generous new sponsor for 2018. There will be two TPI Queensland Scholarship offered to the children and grandchildren of a Veteran who is a current member of TPI Queensland. Each scholarship is worth $4,000 per year for up to three years of full-time study.

The NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSW NMA) is the registered union for all nurses and midwives in New South Wales.

The Association represents the industrial interests of nurses and midwives in New South Wales in the public, private, aged care and disability sectors. Their role is to protect the interests of nurses and midwives and the nursing and midwifery professions. The NSW NMA also represents and provides for the professional, education and industrial welfare of nurses and midwives in government and non-government forums at state, national and international level.

At any one time, NSW NMA supports one child of the veteran community in NSW studying a nursing and/or midwifery degree through a tertiary scholarship managed by AVCAT. The scholoarship is for $4000 per year for up to three years of full-time study

Tasmanian Naval Network Hobart

TPI Tasmania is dedicated to building better lives for Australia's veterans living with disabilities and their families.

The TPI TAS/Tasmanian Naval Network Scholarship is for children and grandchildren of a veteran who is currently living and/or studying in the Hobart area. The scholarship is for $4000 per year for up to three years of full-time study

Global Defence Solutions is a solutions and service provider of deployable shelter and tent systems, air conditioning and generation in support of the Australia Defence Force, Security Services and Defence Forces within the South Pacific Region.

Global Defence Solutions sponsor a scholarship managed by AVCAT.

Australia Military Bank has been providing banking services to Defence personnel, Defence contractors and their families since 1959. Our focus is on the Defence community, however we also welcome members from the general public.

Working with the Defence Force and community is a vital part of what we do. Offering more than just straightforward banking, we also help our members by strengthening the communities they live in. Australian Military Bank supports the Defence community and affiliated causes through various programs and initiatives, including a range of community groups, defence organisations and charities. Wandering Warriors is a fundraising initiative of the Australian Special Air Service Association. The unique bonds that are formed by service in the SAS are never severed. Wandering Warriors hold that they have a lifelong obligation to care for and support their brothers and their families and, where practicable, extend that care to the wider veteran community.

Wandering Warriors sponsor a scholarship managed by AVCAT.

Skilled Athlete  provide high quality training apparel, strength & conditioning programs, and anything cool they can get their hands on. They also sell memorial items for charity. Skilled Athlete donate towards a scholarship managed by AVCAT.

The Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia, NSW Far North Coast Sub-Branch, have donated towards a scholarship.
